Buena Park, California: Knott’s Berry Farm newest roller coaster, Hangtime is an Infinity Coaster from Gerstlauer Amusement Rides.
“Hangtime was a fantastic project for our team,” said Siegfried Gerstlauer, Managing Director of Gerstlauer Amusement Rides. “We have been proud with the success of the Infinity Coaster system and are thrilled to show it off at a park like Knott’s Berry Farm with a storied history.”
Hangtime towers 150-feet over the boardwalk area. It includes 5 gravity-defying inversions, mid-air suspensions and a beyond-vertical drop- the steepest in California. The attraction will ascend 15 stories up a vertical lift hill and will pause at the top, leaving riders suspended at the crest for seconds before descending down a 96-degree drop.
During the opening ceremonies Jon Storbeck, the Vice President and General Manager at Knott’s Berry Farm, said, “Hangtime is the first and only dive coaster in California. As you can see, Hangtime pays homage to California’s beach and surf culture.”
The holding Break on Hangtime has become a popular photo spot. As the riders stop over one hundred feet from the ground, their faces show every emotion, before they speed up the first drop.
Adam Sandy, the Chief Business Development Officer at Ride Entertainment, said it was fun to have some many partners involved in one project. “Obviously the Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster system is a great ride platform, so let’s start there,” he said. “The holding brake and double-down just offer some exhilarating on-ride moments. Add in a breathtaking light package from our friends at KCL and the fact that the Ride Entertainment installation team erected the ride, and you see the power of our partnerships. We continue to separate ourselves from the competition with our ability to offer our customers innovative attractions and customized services.”
The surf-themed roller coaster has redefined the Knott’s Boardwalk area during the day. At night the coaster is visible from miles due to the LED lighting package from KCL Engineering. Kris Kunze, Founder, Managing Principal and Senior Electrical Engineer of KCL Engineering, said “from the onset of the project working with Cedar Fair and the Knott’s Berry Farm team has been an example of professionalism and sophisticated operations. The creative teams of both provided the direction needed for this one-of-a-kind project to come to life.”
