Flamingo Land Coast – update on the planning process

UK: Flamingo Land is currently working on a detailed planning application to develop the former Futurist site in Scarborough.


A preliminary document, known as a screening report, has been submitted to the Scarborough Borough Council, which describes the plans for Flamingo Land Coast.

The council has requested that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) be conducted, which is a normal part of the planning process, given the scale and nature of the application.

A public consultation event will be held in Scarborough to receive public comments and questions about the proposals. Comments and suggestions received at this event will be used to shape the application before it is sent to the council.

The date for the public consultation will be shared with the local press and social networks, anyone who wishes to participate in this process can join.

Flamingo Land CEO Gordon Gibb, said: “Flamingo Land is very much committed to creating a new, exciting family attraction in Scarborough and we are looking forward to sharing these plans with the public.”

A lot of work behind the scenes has been done in preparation for the planning application to be submitted.

Discussions are being held with the ride manufacturers simultaneously specialized engineers are evaluating the safety and installation aspects of the attraction, in case planning permission is granted.

Cllr Derek Bastiman, Leader of Scarborough Borough Council, said: “We are delighted that Flamingo Land has submitted its screening report and revealed its initial, exciting plans for Flamingo Land Coast.”
