British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers, and Attractions celebrates at Europa-Park


Rust, Germany : More than 75 members of the British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers, and Attractions (BALPPA) visited Germany’s largest theme park in June 2016. The members met at Europa-Park to hold their annual Summer Meeting, and to celebrate the 80th anniversary of BALPPA. The world’s most popular theme park was the perfect setting to discuss the latest developments in the theme park industry, and celebrate the association’s birthday.

The event opened with members arriving at the Europa-Park Golfclub Breisgau. Set amidst the captivating landscape of Baden-Württemberg at the foothills of the Black Forest, it is just a few minutes drive from Europa-Park.

BALPPA members enjoyed a round of golf in the glorious sunshine, before gathering for internal meetings in the diverse Europa-Park Confertainment facilities.

Next up was an exclusive behind the scenes tour of Europa-Park, visiting and testing several new attractions for the 2016 season, including Pegasus Coastiality. The popular YoungStar coaster in the Greece themed area has been equipped with the innovative Virtual Reality technology since March. In the 4D Magic Cinema, a screening of the brand new MackMedia movie adventure, Happy Family, entertained the visitors. The highlight of the tour was a preview of the 14th European themed area, Ireland, which will open in midJuly.

Several new attractions for the whole family are taking shape in the former Children’s World area. The visitors discovered an arising little fishing village, the children’s swing boat Dancing Dingie, the children’s rollercoaster Ba-a-a-Express, and the tractor ride Old MacDonald‘s Tractor Fun, as well as the covered play area Limerick Castle.

In the Spanish Bodega Restaurant, the international BALPPA members gathered together with the Mack family to toast their 80-year anniversary.

The exciting and entertaining schedule for the visitors continued the following day, with a lunch at the world’s first looping restaurant, FoodLoop. Next, the industry experts headed to Waldkirch in the Black Forest to visit Mack Rides, Season 2016 the mother company of Europa-Park. Here, the members of BALPPA learned all about the 235 year history of the family business and were given exclusive insights into the production of the latest attractions. Even now, most EuropaPark attractions are still built here. To round off their tour, the visitors enjoyed the evening show Le Grand Chapiteau, with a delicious four course meal and international show program. BALPPA Chairman Marshall Hill summed up the event, saying, “I will give Europa-Park 14 out of 10 possible points!”

Europa-Park will be open in the 2016 summer season from 19th March to 6th November from 9am to 6pm daily (longer opening hours during peak season).
