It was already the fifth time that the British business magazine and Family Office “CampdenFB” presented the exclusive CampdenFB Awards organised in collaboration with the French private bank Société Générale. European family businesses were awarded for outstanding performance and service in a total of six different management categories. For Europe´s most popular theme park, the evening represented an occasion for rejoicing on two accounts. At the beginning of the year, the well-respected “Capital” magazine had already listed Michael Mack among “Germany’s Top 40 under 40” and honoured him as an influential young entrepreneur. The high-calibre CampdenFB Awards jury agreed and named the managing partner of Europa-Park a “Top NextGeneration Entrepreneur”.CampdenFB_1_1_610x400

Michael Mack has been involved in the management of the family business, whose history stretches back over more than 235 years, for over a decade. In 2005, the eldest son of Europa-Park owner Roland Mack joined the management team of the parent company Mack Rides in Waldkirch. Here, in the domestic workshops in the Black Forest, state-of-the-art rides continue to be planned, developed and built. Almost all new attractions in Germany’s largest theme park come from the company’s own production. Two years later, the business management graduate also assumed responsibility for strategic business development, for the Marketing, Entertainment, Operation & Services departments as well as for the IT and construction management at EuropaPark. This year, he was appointed to be managing partner of Europa-Park together with his brother Thomas.

One of the innovations that was realised under Michael Mack’s management in 2014 in collaboration with French star director Luc Besson is the 10,000 square metre themed area ARTHUR – In the Minimoys Kingdom. At 25 million euros, this is the most elaborate attraction in the family business’s history. As the visionary driver of MackMedia, which he founded in 2002, he is also forging new paths to lead Europa-Park into a digital future and to make the unique entertainment experience available outside the park as well. In 2015, with Michael Mack at the helm, the company presented the first virtual reality rollercoaster worldwide, the Alpenexpress Coastiality, which attracted international attention and has already thrilled over half a million visitors. At the beginning of the year, MackMedia also implemented the innovative technology on the popular YoungStar rollercoaster in the Greek themed area. Another highlight of the 2016 season is the brand-new MackMedia adventure “Happy Family”, showing in the Magic Cinema 4D. The new 4D film is just a preview of the movie “Happy Family” co-produced by MackMedia, which will be shown in cinemas worldwide in 2017.

These are only some of the noteworthy projects realised thanks to the commitment and innovative spirit of Michael Mack – but sufficient reason for the international awards jury to honour him as a top next-generation entrepreneur. The prize winner accepted his CampdenFB Award in the capital with obvious delight. “This award is a wonderful recognition of my work as well my brother’s. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire family for the trust they place in us. The awards encourage us to continue on our innovative course in the years to come,” said Michael Mack. With this statement, the newly honoured award winner also made reference to EuropaPark as a successful family business, which received an award itself that evening. Last year, Germany’s largest theme park had several causes for celebration. Besides its 40-year anniversary, visitor numbers at Europa-Park topped 5.5 million in 2015 for the first time, and “Amusement Today” magazine voted it “Best Amusement Park Worldwide” for the second time in a row. For its outstanding achievements, Europa-Park received the prestigious “Top Family Business” award.

Europa-Park will be open in the 2016 summer season from 19th March to 6th November from 9am to 6pm daily.
