Europa-Park received More than 5.5 million visitors last season

Europa-Park

Rust, Germany: Germany’s largest theme park rounds off 2016 with a new visitor record. Europa-Park owner Roland Mack: “With over 5.5 million visitors, we once again look back on a record year for our company.” After the season came to a close on 8th January, for the first time Europa-Park offered its visitors a special opening last weekend from 13th to 15th January 2017 to celebrate the world premiere of DJ BoBo’s new tour.

With the world premiere of his new terrific show, Mystorial, DJ BoBo celebrated his 25th stage anniversary at Europa-Park from 13th to 15th January. For over 20 years, the pleasant Swiss has been a regular guest at Europa-Park and so was given the honour of opening the brand-new Europa-Park Arena with his superlative show. The ultra-modern events hall, which costs more than ten million euros, is the perfect location for any array of occasions: from gala evenings, conferences and fairs to simple great shows, concerts, and TV events. Spread across an area of almost 3,000 square meters (overall dimensions: 60 meter length and 40 meter width) there is ample room for up to 6,000 people.

To make the event truly special, Europa-Park opened its gates exclusively for the first time in its long history and offered its visitors the popular winter magic they’ve come to expect with all its shows and attractions over three additional days.

In the coming weeks there will be plenty more highlights to be taken in: the successful dinner show Cirque d’Europe is still running at Europa-Park until 12th February. It offers entertainment and culinary delights at the highest level.

More than 15,000 visitors have already enjoyed the unique combination of artistic performances, live music and comedy. The programme is accompanied by an exquisite 4-course menu from 2* Michelin chef Peter Hagen-Wiest. Of course, several Europa-Park hotels also remain open permanently at the end of the season and offer numerous event highlights with the Feel Good Weeks.

January 2017 Successful year

2016 was marked by investments of more than 20 million euros; in particular, much attention was paid to the new themed area Ireland – Children’s World. More than 100 new jobs have been created as a result at Europa-Park, along with 150 apprenticeships for young people.

The occupancy rate of the themed hotels remains very high: the number of overnight guests and duration of stay has increased steadily. As Roland Mack emphasizes, the significant growth can be attributed to a strong influx of guests from North-Rhine Westphalia, Hesse, and Rhineland-Palatinate. The number of visitors from France and Switzerland has even increased in the double-digit percentage range.

Roland Mack enters the Hall of Fame

In November, the IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) has inducted Roland Mack into its Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed to such influential industry personalities as Walt Disney. In 2012, Roland Mack had already been appointed as the first German president of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. And yet there was even more pleasing news to follow: Europa-Park has also been voted as the Best Theme Park in the World by an expert panel of judges for the third time in a row. Furthermore, Europa-Park once again was crowned Most Popular Theme Park in Germany and Europe at the Travellers’ Choice Awards  hosted by TripAdvisor, the largest travel website worldwide. Also the juries of the European Star Awards and the Parksmania association have repeatedly voted Europa-Park as Europe’s Best Theme Park.

Second star for Ammolite – The Lighthouse Restaurant retained

Once again head chef Peter Hagen-Wiest defended his two Michelin Stars, which he had already earned in 2014 after just two years in the fine dining restaurant ‘Ammolite – The Lighthouse Restaurant’. Europa-Park is the only theme park to be awarded two stars by the renowned gourmet guide Michelin worldwide.

Outlook for 2017

The Happy Family project has also received much good feedback. Based on the book by author David Safier, the new 4D movie produced by MackMedia, the Coastiality Experience on Pegasus and the corresponding characters brought visitors a world of pleasure. This was, amongst others, at a preview of the movie that will debut in cinemas all across Europe in summer 2017.

In 2017 Europa-Park will once again invest a double-digit million amount of Euro in its Rust location. The biggest single investment in the history of Europa-Park, Europe’s largest Flying Theater, a completely innovative worldclass flight simulator, emerges. During the season 2017, the dream of flying will become a reality with Project V. Passengers will be carried off into the wonderful world of pioneering aviators, Egbert and Kaspar Eulenstein. The major attraction, currently being constructed under the working title Project V, allows visitors to participate in the outstanding achievements of the two aviation pioneers. In two theatres, passengers glide through the air in spectacular style in chairlift-esque gondolas. On the 21meter screens, sensational depictions of Europe’s most famous landscapes and metropolises can be admired. Effects such as wind, water, and scent make crossing the 16-meter-high domes a feast for the senses and intensify the feeling of flying like never before. The film will be produced by MackMedia under the direction of Holger Tappe. Highly technological and unique to Europe camera systems installed on helicopters and drones during the flyover, allow sensational recordings in only the highest quality. In the two theatre halls, a highly modern IOSONO-Sound surround sound system makes for a perfectly individualized sound quality that is optimally adapted to the gondolas. Project V is the first building block of the Adventure Club of Europe with which

visitors to Europa-Park can discover and experience a broad range of adventures across different attractions in the future.

The summer season at Europa-Park begins on 1st April 2017.
