Rust, Germany: The grand opening of the 14th European themed area in Germany’s largest theme park unveiled something special for old and young visitors alike; yet it was not only the guests who were surprised and enthused in equal measure as Europa-Park opened its Ireland themed area.
James ‘Chip’ Cleary, former CEO and President of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), was left speechless when the gates to Ireland were ceremoniously opened in July.
The Emerald Isle held a surprise for the renowned expert of the leisure industry: in honour of his relentless dedication and passionate commitment during the implementation of this large-scale project, the park’s owners – the Mack family – dedicated a shop window with the inscription “Chip McCleary – Toys & Trains” to him.
The likeable Californian and Europe’s most popular theme park are connected through a long-standing friendship. Since 2013 Cleary has been on-hand with help and advice for Europa-Park, acting as a Senior Consultant. Europa-Park also counts on the American, and his 35 years of experience, for the construction of the upcoming Water Adventure Resort that will emerge on a 46-hectare extension area in the Southeast of the park in 2018.
