Staffordshire, UK: Alton Towers Resort is launching the UK’s first Rollercoaster Restaurant, brand new and opening in May 2016.The new restaurant is set below a vast roller coaster track where diners can watch as their order tackles two gravity defying loop-the-loops before dropping 8m/26ft – the equivalent of two double decker buses -down the tornado spiral to their table.
From a standing start, each dish will compete to its final destination, racing along 400m of spiralling steel track – the equivalent of a full-size athletics track – and travelling faster than Mo Farah when he won Gold at the Olympics. To ensure that the menu is up to the challenge, each of the dishes will be put through its paces at the Resort’s extensive test centre to guarantee that each one can withstand the force.
Each dish will travel an average of 173 miles each week, the equivalent distance between Sheffield and London.
A first for the Resort, the new RollercoasterRestaurant will also offer a premium evening menu, exclusively for guests staying at the on-site hotels and in the local area as part of a short break. Offering a novel twist on family dining, the Rollercoaster Restaurant will be the ideal dining experience for those staying over.
Accessible via a walkway running from the hotels and Alton Towers’ new Enchanted Village into the heart of the Park, the restaurant is ideal for thrill-seeking guests who are looking to extend their Alton Towers experience with a short break once the rides have closed.
Speaking of the new attraction, Gill Riley at Alton Towers said: “The new Rollercoaster Restaurant will offer guests a unique dining experience that they can’t find anywhere else in the UK.
“The intricate network of loops and spiralling tracks is an incredible spectacle and we feel that the new restaurant is an attraction in itself. Each diner will enjoy a full 360 dining experience at one of the 13 tables and will get to select from the brand new menu of family favourites – including the Big Bowl of Lemon Meringue Mess!
“We’re looking forward to welcoming guests in 2016 and we believe that the new restaurant will be a top attraction for both theme park guests and those staying with us as part of a short break.”
